Earlier this year, we attended the January Furniture Show, eager to explore the latest trends and innovations. However, one thing stood out was that sustainability was barely part of the conversation.
While we saw some well-designed pieces, few manufacturers seemed focused on environmentally responsible materials or production methods. Conversations with sales representatives revealed a surprising mindset: many believed the demand for sustainability had dropped, so there was little incentive to prioritise it.
This approach shocked us. Sustainability shouldn’t be an afterthought, it should be the standard. Rather than waiting for demand to dictate action, manufacturers should lead the way by offering sustainable solutions as the new norm.
This experience reinforced our belief that there’s a gap in the market for sustainable upholstery in the contract sector. Designers and buyers are actively seeking ethical, environmentally friendly options, yet many manufacturers are hesitant to innovate. At Foxwood Furniture Co., we see this as an opportunity to do things differently.
